How to build a scenography for your amigurumi photos

Give your Amigurumis a home, or put them in context.

Create an environment

Giving your amigurumis an environment or scenography and adding them into a context will help the viewer to understand how you see your amigurumis and it will help to make them more personal.
We always see white backgrounds in many amigurumi photos. That can perhaps increase the visibility of your products and the chance to get in the front page of etsy, but let me tell you something: you spend all those hours imagining and recreating all kinds of beings in crochet and you will leave them without any kind of scenography?

Imagination

I would say that the labor of crocheting amigurumis is very rewarding per se, but even more if you can photograph your creations with sense of humor, with cuteness if you wish, or simply transmiting a story, a tale.
It is not hard to create a scenography. It is not hard to take photos of your amigurumis. You need mainly bottle corks, magazines, carton, cloth pieces, etcetera... Anything you find useful!

Setting up your stage:

1. Think first what do you want to recreate, how the amigurumi can fit in that situation, which materials are needed.

2. In a carton box create a semi lightbox by adding some white paper in the front and the bottom. That will be the base to put things on top.

3. Start crafting the elements of your scene, remember not to fill the scene with all kinds of stuff. Still needs to look sober so the observer does not feel saturated.

4. Once everything is in place, put your amigurumi model in the scene and remember to have at least one good light close. I prefer natural light so I try to take the pictures out as much as I can.

These pictures are taken with a phone. Do you think the setting makes the pictures more interesting?

Can a scenography make up for having a bad camera?

I hope these tips can help you to give life to your creations, drop a comment and tell us what you think!
